For over a decade, faculty, students, and alumni at California College of the Arts (CCA) have played an integral role in the movement toward sustainable design. By hosting Design Green Now, CCA can enrich the discussion of environmental impact and bring this important issue to a wider audience.
What is the school doing green -
With its roots in the Arts and Crafts movement, an era in which artists and designers took on the forces of culture and economics to argue the importance of how things are made, CCA has long encouraged students to understand the pivotal role they play as “makers.” A thorough understanding of the ways in which design impacts society is a critical component of a well-rounded design curriculum. In summer 2008, CCA will launch the Summer Institute in Sustainable Design, an innovative program open to practicing designers and professionals working in industries concerned with design.
